Here is some information that you can get from you serial number after 1921

Remington's manufactured after 1921 have a code located on the left side of the barrel near the frame that identifies the year and month of manufacture. The following letters correspond to the months of the year

Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer's rifle.

Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above.

(*) On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01.

Does this coding system work for shotguns too? It says it does, but I find no codes stamped on my barrel that look like what's described here.
I have an 870 Wingmaster in excellent condition w/a 28", Modified choked barrel that has a 2-3/4" chamber. There are various stampings around the barrel, such as an "H", but it's all by itself with no other marks that look like they would go with it. The serial number begins and ends with the letter "V"; would that help?
I'd like to know when it was made, can anyone help??
Thanks

I have a 722 in .244, serial number 367xxx. The barrel date code says B o 8 which I assume means Jan/77, this does not make sense being that this rifle was not manufactured after 1962. Any help identifying the date would be greatly appreciated. Also, I recently acquired this rifle and do not have any idea of the value. Are these sought after?

I was trying to get some information on an old 700bdl rifle my father owns. it is stamped UXUC. I contacted Remington and they said by the Receiver serial number it was manufactured 12/71. This matches the "XU" stamp. My question is what does the first "U" stamp and the last "C" stamp represent?

Thank you

I just recently purchased a Remington 1100 shotgun that has a serial number on the receiver that is "L79xxxxV". I'm trying to figure out when it was made and from what I read on a site it stated the first letter would be the month and then the first two numbers would be the year (so mine would be Feb 1979?!?). Does anyone know if that is correct? Thanks

All the codes above refer to the barrel codes, not the serial number.
