Easy-Peasy Galloway upgrade!

I've had my RM380 since this spring. I picked up all the Galloway upgrades when I got it but wanted to wait to install and prove it in before fiddling with it. It's pretty much in hibernation right now because I can conceal my bigger 9mm pistols with the cooler weather clothing. The RM380 passed with boringly colors. It never missed a beat. I just love it because I know it's 1000% reliable!

Anyway, today, I tackled the Galloway upgrades and new white Tillander aftermarket grips. The white is for better concealment in my summer clothes which are much lighter in color.

This was sooooooo easy. It was the first time I took it apart and I had never even field stripped it worrying about getting that takedown pin back in. The physically hardest part, and I kid you not, was taking the grips off! Absolutely, needed the T7 (?) wrench to get the screws out. No one has mentioned that all 5 had a dab of RED loctite, some a bigger dab than others. Yikes! Mr. LL had to unscrew one that I could not budge. A little Kroil helped. I rubbed off some of that loctite before putting them back in.

The firing pin spring went without a hitch. I took a moment to GunScrubber the channel which was pretty fouled. I replaced the recoil spring and plastic guide rod also. Next came the hammer spring. At this point the trigger spring, bar, pin and trigger fell out. (I guess I could have installed the Tyre trigger set but wasn't sure if it would fit my version so maybe another day.). The hammer spring pin came out easily. I put in the new spring and new retainer. Trying to push in the retainer while getting the pin back in showed how I must be all thumbs. The easiest way was to lay it on its side, place the pin in the hole (it'll only go a little way), then push in the retainer until the pin drops in place. Way too easy.

After a little function test, it was time to put the slide back on. That one took the most hand strength (not counting the grip screws). It took about 5 tries until I realized the recoil rod was seated too deeply at an angle and not straight. Then, the pin went right in and seated fine.

Whew! What a long winded story for a 45 minute job. It all function tested perfectly and the white grips look awesome! It gets a live fire range test in a couple of weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I did the Galloway conversions some time ago. I have put about 140 rounds through the gun since installing. I must say that the trigger is much smoother and easier, and the recoil is reduced beyond the original low recoil. The gun is better than the one I bought. It does take time to get used to the takedown placement t of the recoil rod, but once you place it in warning you never do it again. Great people buy great guns.

I tested the trigger pull after the spring upgrade and it averaged about 7.5lbs. It dropped a little from 8lbs. I'll take anything I can get on that one.

I agree, Richard! Make a mistake once and one is not likely to forget!

You dressed it up fine. I understand your summer wear decision.
I am just an old retired Marine and black is what I am acccustomed to.

Upgrades worth every penny! Trigger was fine before but exquisite now. Smooth and easy. Highly recommended.... No troubles of any kind.
