My new R51 observations

Picked up my new R51 last week, I liked the feel, form and look of the R51 so decided to go for it.

I bought onlne from the local major outdoor retailer, took about 10 days to be delivered and then I went down and did the paper work for the background.

Noticed then that they was quite a lot of grease on the barrel, I wiped some off but did not have the time to really clean it.

Now at the first cleaning the barrel is generally in poor shape, I only used a nylon brush and the typicaly cleaning supplies.

I can still see a few spots were the grease is what seems like pock marks on the barrel, I suppose cleaning with a different brush might take care of that.

Also noticed lines on the barrel, probably about 1.5" long, they are running horizontal on the barrel. My guess would be some type of clamp marks.

Has anyone seem these problems with a new out of the box R51? Appreciate any comments.
I am not a perfectionist but also consider that the barrel is starting out in sad shape and is not going to get any better.

First range day is in 3 days so more details to follow.

Regards,
GP CC

Could you post some pics? good sharp close ups preferrably. pock marks could be rust that was cleaned (bad) or could be dirt (harmless). We can't tell from words.

giving the R51 (or any gun) polished barrel or moving components is just a bad idea. My barrel looks pretty "brushed" after a few hundred rounds and the polished bushing just looks like ****. I'm half-tempted to toss the bushing in my tumbler just to knock the luster down some.

Thank you for your comments, I will get some pictures posted shortly.

Visited the range last week, made it through 10 mags.

Good new - R51 worked great, no failures
Poor news - I was very consistently low, about 6"-7's low at 6 o'clock

It seems this may be a known issue, will need more range time to see how much might be me.

Regards,
GP

Glad you had no hiccups on your first day at the range. The bushing on mine got scratched to he11 after a few takedowns. I think the edges on the slide are too sharp and mar the bushing. I took a stone and knocked the corners down a tad. Too late as the cosmetic damage is done, but it won't get worse. Could/should have been done at the factory.

Low point of impact, same on mine. I returned it for that, and a sticking slide. I'm hoping they resolve the POI.

I miss it! Hoping it will be back soon. I will give an update when I get my hands on it again.

I am anxious to hear some more after the POI issue is resolved.

I got mine back for Remington. No real POI improvement. They replaced the slide. I can rack it again, but have had problems jamming on the second round. It nose dives and cannot be cleared without removing the mag. Not what I want for my carry gun. I've been a huge fan of the gun, but I just cannot trust my life to something this unpredictable.

Looks like it will just be a range toy. I'll leave the defensive work for the CZ75 compact or the Walther PPQs. Not a slender single stack, but they always go bang.

I read this whole thread, I can't believe you guys are still wasting your time on this piece of junk! The minute that you have to start polishing, sanding, filing or bending parts trying to make the damn thing reliable or just even function better is the time to get rid of this Albatross! I suggest a Glock 26, the things just work! I bought one after Remington bought my R51 back. 2500 rounds and never a malfunction, the gun eats what ever I feed it. I believe it would feed a beer can. By the way, Remington just hired the former CEO of Taurus to be its new CEO. I laughed so hard I hurt myself! I'm sure he will fix the quality control and customer service problems at Big Green! lol!!!!

Hello R51 owners I purchased my R51 02/05/2018 ,,, when I frisf fire it it would shoot down to the left at 20yds, for the first 50 rounds, on the second box I had to move my figure to the right till about 3/8 of my figure was on the trigger , now after firing it it 1n a nine in circle ,,,,I really like the R51 as I will be buying a second one hopefully it will be in this week,,, I have used Magtech 115 fmj, remington 115 fmj, cci blazer brass 115 gr fmj and it just fires away ,,,I use Remington UD (for long guns as per Remington}for defense and it fires it no problem , hope this helps
