I have an approximately 4 year old SPS chambered in .270 WSM. I have only shot this weapon 10 or 15 times. Every since I first shot it, I have had difficulty loading rounds into the magazine and the second and (if able) subsequent rounds have always jammed. Essentially this is a one shot rifle. I have attempted discussion on problems and issues with Remington HQ and have been left with one or a combination of 3 options. 1. Box Magazine mis-aligned 2. Bad Spring 3. Follower mis-alignment
I have pulled the stock and barrel/action from each other to examine and fix the problem(s). There doesn't seem to be any availability to adjust the box magazine on the floor plate (at least to get it to remain aligned there); the spring seem okay (I did stretch it slightly to hopefully increase tensile strength); and I am not sure how to properly align the follower. Remington's answer was to "just purchase a new magazine, spring, and follower"...... Not sure that would fix the issue as all of the above did not work. Anyone else have this issue? If so, what did you do? Thanks.

Sorry Rocky...but I can't think of any other options to fix your problem, other than to replace the parts.

Well I received my weapon back from the Remington Factory (Ilion, NY) Last week. I did talk to the repairman/engineer. He stated that the problem was the Head Space was off a bit. Additionally, the extractor was not functioning due to a potential factory problem (his words). he did make all the adjustments and re-machined (not sure what exactly that entailed but you can see his work on the bolt/extractor). The good news is that all the work was completed by Remington (weapon has only been shot about 10 times) at no cost to me.....That makes me a big fan. Not sure what QA issues the manufacturer has with that but....good to know. I have been doing some research on this and this problem is seems to be very pronounced with Short Magnums. Remember that these rounds tend to have parallel sides (not tapered like most rounds found in the 700). Hence these rounds (at least on the blog sites) tend to be reported as more susceptible and with much more incidence of this happening.......Seems like Remington should be "aware" of this and provide guidance for those of us who own these systems.... I did discuss this with the factory (at NC and Not Ilion) but did not get much in the way of "acknowledgement" or help).......
Anyway, I did cycle 3-4 rounds through the weapon a few times and noticed no issues; so it seems resolved.....off to the range with this baby. |
