NOTE: It would more likely to be considered one of the guns that won the West. The Sharps were inherently a quality long range firearm. Sharps did produce a couple calibers that were not inherently accurate, but when you consider the time frame they were produced, Sharps more than qualified as an accurate and quality constructed firearm.

One thing for sure, these early frontiersmen understood exterior ballistics for the knowledge that was available in their particular time frame. And remember they were shooting a single shot rifle so they knew the importance of placement.

It's pretty well documented that some of the Sharps could be accurate at 1000 yards. And there's also documemtion that it could reach out and touch someone at over 1500 yards, (Billy Dixon).

SHARPS. Just the name recalls not only the rifle and its maker, but brings to mind images of times long past. Images of professional hunters whose lives and livehoods depended upon the power and accuracy of their rifles.
The Sharps rifle gained popularity in the nineteenth century due to its durability, accuracy, simplicity, and power. The cartridges for which the Sharps were chambered could reliably kill the largest animals on Earth.
