Going to pick up my wife's rifle today. It's the new Savage Lady Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor. I ordered a new scope yesterday and it's a Nikon Monarch 2 1/2 - 10 X 42 with the BDC reticle. I cqn't wait to see it.

Wow! Is she going to compete with it? That sounds awesome. You must be a reloader!

Pics.... we need pics. Anything you can give us. We're needy that way.

Nitesite, thanks for the reply, I'm a mfg. rep whose been in the hunting and fishing industry almost my whole life. And at one time some years ago even represented Hornady for a number of years. Due to many other interests I never had an interest in reloading because Hornady even then made ammo that was quite good enough for a whitetail hunter and his wife. Today they have taken ammo to another level which is why I purchased the 6.5 Creedmoor for her . I will most likely use the 129 gr. SST in her rifle. I'm getting a 2 1/2 - 10 X 42 BDC Nikon Monarch for her rifle which should work just fine. I brought the rifle home this afternoon and I don't know who was more excited her or myself. I picked up the rifle and rings and bases today and the scope is on the way from another rep via UPS today.I have a fanatical friend who can't wait to start breaking it in when the scope is on and ready to go. By the way the ammo we will start with will be Hornady Superformance.

Nitesite, I should have told you that I'm not very good with the computer, but you can see photos of the new Savage Lady Hunter on their website.

Received the new scope yesterday, Nikon Monarch 2 1/2 - 10 X 42 BDC matte finish. Ready to go to the gunsmith for mounting. Then my friend who just retired from the NYSP will break it in. He's an old SWAT team member and as ANAL as they come about breaking in a barrel in the proper manner. My wife is very happy so far. The rifle fits her perfectly.

Sounds like a great rifle. How is it after the break in?

My buddy called last nite, says the gun is a shooter. It's light with quite a slim barrel and he says it heats up real quick. Claims first two shots are almost one hole with the third off about 3/4". As far as I'm concerned that's great for a 6# deer gun. Decided to have our gunsmith bed the barrel so it'll be another week before the " old girl " gets to shoot it. He used almost two boxes of ammo so next trip to Rochester I'll stop at Beikirch's for two more boxes of Hornady Superformance 129 gr. 6.5 Creedmoor ammo.

Well it's been a while, after my friend broke her rifle in, in the correct manner that is, he decided to take it completely apart and clean it. As you can imagine when he put it back together it didn't shoot in the same spot as it did after it was broke in. So he called and said that he and the Gunsmith that hunts with us thought they should glass bed the stock so that it never changes. Now you have to know my friend just retired from the NYSP and spent a number of years on their SWAT Team so he is a very anal and accomplished shooter. This rifle is very light with a very slim barrel and when he finished breaking it in he said the following it shoots OK but it heats up fast telling me that the first 2 shots are almost one hole but the 3rd is about 3/4 " away. Like was that supposed to bother me, she won't shoot 3 shots that fast anyway. I was delighted to say the least.

Now for the news, he just sent me a text with the following quote:" just fired 4 shots...first with clean barrel doesn't count... next 3 less than bullet width apart with last 2 in same hole barely bigger than one hole"... it's ready!!!

Hornady Superformance ammo 6.5 Creedmoor 129 gr. SST

I can't wait to shoot it myself. I think I might be more excited than my wife, she's in Cozumel so I think I'll shoot it Sat. am if it's not raining
