Hi!! i have a brand new 700 LSS 30-06. The barrel is not free floating, it touches at one point. Should i sand the stock and free float it?

This is primarely an hunting riffle, aside of practice, i won't be shooting much. And if i free float it, do i need to measure the torque when re-installing the stock on? Or just tight is ok?

Thank you for advice!!

Daniel.

Welcome to the Remington Owners Forum danielouimette !!

You have answered your own questions...yes, free floating the barrel would help accuracy...and yes, the torque used does matter...

Well, now hold on...

Let the rifle tell you what it likes. Take it out and shoot it a little before you start changing things. If you want to see how it shoots floated, take a double-layer of business card and place it under the barrel, right in front of the recoil lug. That should lift the action up off of the stock enough to let it tell you if that's what it likes.

Thank you for the advise. I will try it first and then make changes if necessary.
