Ok...first off. New member, first post, and kinda glad I found this place! I have owned several 870's and M700's. Todays questions concerns the "Express" and "Express Magnum" debate. I have owned a "Wiingmaster" but that was back in the 80's, and have owned two different "express" models, all three in 12ga, and my most recent own was an "Express Magnum"...it was plainly stamped n the receiver. Times got a little tough and I had to thin the herd some, and the 870 was culled. So now times are better and I am searching for a replacement. I have found at a pawn shop a neglected 870"Express" that needs some attention, but looks to be a fine representative ( with a little Kroil, steel wool, and wood polish 8-) but for $200.00 it should pan out pretty well. It is a basic package 870; 28" bbl, and mod choke tube in the pipe. The question I can't seem to remember the answer to is this: Will a standard 870 "Express" handle 3" shells? The previous owner used a camo fabric tape to camo the barrel, so I can't see the barrel stamps. Somebody please lend a brother a hand!

Even if the serial number does not have an "M" in it?

I have an 870 and an 870 Express Magnum, both 12 ga.The Express has a 20.5" barrel with a remchoke. It was a gift. I can find no reference to that length barrel. Any info on it? Thanks. Earl

Express 870s are chambered for the 2-1/2" and the 3" shell.

Express Magnum 870s will accomodate the 3-1/2" variety.
