Allison and I have been quail hunting over the last few weeks since opening day of the season! We hunt with Ivy, my English Pointer. Shes green, but coming along quickly, she knows what to do better than I do and if I'm payin attention, shes teachin me how it goes! ;)

This is the beautiful piece of ground we've been hunting!

There's some very heavy brush!

Heres a short vid I got of Ivy at work, When the bird flushes and I go down and all you see is grass for a sec, thats cuz Allison was behind me! I got outta the way so she could shoot over top of us!

Wow, wish I hadn't missed this thread 'till now. Upland hunting in the fall is an awesome experience. I'd take that over duck hunting any day! That's some daughter you're raising there, Brad. And beautiful land on which to hunt.

Count your blessings, brother (I know you already do).

NiteSite, Thanks!

I too like upland hunting more, its more "pro-active" if you will. The exercise doesnt hurt as I get older either! :D

Allison is doin great and is always up for hunting, even sets her alarm for like 5 am and helps get me out of bed and get goin in the mornin!

We took Lauren with us yesterday, shes 5! I helped her out and let her pull the trigger a few times on both the .410 and 12 ga. She didnt wanna stop!

Ivy is comin along nicely, but is runnin far and wide right now... its late in the season, so there are fewer birds and shes eatin up ground to find what ever is out there. Problem is, we cant keep up and sometimes dont have a clue if shes pointing! She did this Thanksgiving day on a pheasant. The grass was high and we couldnt see her. She was pointing, and we only know this cuz we couldnt here her bell, we thought she had gone well out of range. Well, a pheasant flushed not far from us with Ivy behind, and us not being ready or getting into position, I didnt get my gun up fast enough and Allison was too close to back me up.

I fired a quick shot and missed and chambered another shell. As I turned to get my bead back on the most beautiful pheasant I had ever seen, I saw blaze orange in my firing line. Another small group had come into the field behind us. My shot had given them plenty of warning and they had a shot on the bird after it passed us. They got it. They took the bird and left. Sux cuz my dog found it, they had a dog with them and their dog was never on the bird. Had they let it come down, Ivy would have found it again. She always finds the birds that we miss. Heck, we got three quail 2 weeks ago by her finding birds that flushed and headed into the woods. She stayed on them and found each one.

Ok, so short story... Thank you. We thoroughly enjoy our time together, successful or otherwise!
