As above, what is the best grain weight/BC to run in my 20" VTR barrel ??

Most people tend to run 165-168 grain in their Remington 700 with a 1/12. Your best bet is to try a few different grains and see what your Remington 700 likes the best.

I'm beginning to think that. I have been using 155 and 150 grain stuff for the past few years. I even used 125 grain stuff but was not confident about accuracy. I'm doing a bit of load development at the moment and want to buy 200 heads, so I might try the 168 grain stuff. My aim is sub 1" @ 200 yards, the more sub the better ![]() Most of the deer shot here are around the 200 yard mark so I want to be able to head and neck at that range with confidence. Also are you guys using Varget powder? Or what powder works best in .308? |

I'm looking at these at the moment
https://cliffsgsr.us/products-page/hornady/165-gr1/ Yeah or Neigh? Fallow/Red/Sika deer are the quarry ~200 yards |

I am currently using Hornady Superformance and Chrono'ed 2875 average speed out of my 20" VTR Barrel. I had one round 2906fps out of a 5 shot string. I have used as low as 125Grain Nosler Ballistic tipped rounds and MINCED Foxes, but alas never shot a deer with them as I only had 50 rounds of them made up by HPS ammo in the UK. Largest Irish deer is 320 lbs, but most would average 150 lbs. Looking to create a nice hunting load with good BC, relatively flat traj for a .308 and rapid expansion for good knock down ability, did I also say sub 1" @200 yards off a bipod with no back rest. ![]() |

Are Combined Technologies Ballistic Silvertips available in Ireland?

Another question, have you tried Varget and a Hornady V-Max? Seems like that would be an excellent bullet for head/neck shot shots, even the mid-weight bullets. I've found Hornady V-Max bullets to be superbly accurate out to 300-yards and beyond.

I'm trying out Hodgsons and 4395 (I Think that is the number) and Nosler Silvertips 165 grain. I was told Varget would be a compressive load on 165 grain heads so I went with a different powder recipe. Hope to have them next week to test fire |

Had my longest deer to date, 369 yards.

Nice Shot!

The ballistics calc and chronograph really make it easy. I was plinking rocks last week at 748yards in a 15mph 11 O'Clock wind |
