Picked up a decent 870 Youth in 20 Ga last night for pennies. Guy said his kid wanted a 12 Ga even when I told him and ounce of shot was an ounce of shot, it didn't care about gauges. So I talked him down. Now it's mine, just needs some fixing up. The 21" "youth" barrel has to go, but I may cylinder choke it and use it for slugs. Also the short compact stock needs to be replaced with the standard stock. Still deciding if I want the Express Synthetic in black, or camo. The pink camo ones seem to go for pennies but they are all "compacts".

Love the 870 platform. Even though I don't use my 12 Ga for trap anymore, it taught me well. Now of course, one needs to find an 870 in 28 Ga and 410 Bore, so.....

Decided I'm looking for the Realtree Hardwoods synthetic stock that Remington offers, so if anyone has any take-offs, please let me know. Or a black Express Synthetic take-off too. Ordered a new magazine tube cap that has the sling swivel in it. And I installed an Improved Cylinder choke in the 21" barrel so it's basically a slug-gun now. In time I'll source a 26-28" upland or waterfowl barrel, but that is a ways away.

And you were absolutely right about an ounce of shot being an ounce of shot. I'm not even against a 7/8 ounce Lee slug to be honest. They fly a lot more true than the 1 oz does.

I wish we were closer and I had the film/pattern you wanted. I'd invite you over on the weekend and show you how to do your own camo dips. It's not hard, but it is time consuming and takes a few different things to complete it.

clean/degrease
paint the base coat color(s)
let cure
dip the parts
rinse the parts
let dry
clear coat
let cure and reassemble.


Here's a pattern that I did on my Turkish semi auto 12 gauge that I bought last spring for a whopping $179.00 delivered.

The camo costs broken down are about $56 for 3 meters of film, which was enough to do about 3 long guns and scopes and rings and a few little odds and ends. The air cure cerakote was about $50 for a 4 oz bottle which is enough to do 7 or 8 guns easily. Cheap air brush $15. A container large enough to dip the biggest part. I use a long plastic storage tub you can get at walmart.

Of course, you can buy other patterns for about $20 per meter that you can get off of ebay and various places online. A meter of film will easily do one a whole rifle or shotgun.

Yes, I thought so too.

The nice thing about it there are large spots that is transparent and you can make it lighter or darker to match different terrains better.

I decided that if I do another one in this pattern, I'm going to use more tannish brown base coat color that will match even better than what the distributor recommended.

Believe it or not, the basecoat on mine is a really light whitish tan, almost the color of masking tape.

You could even do grey's that would be like granite, could do any color you wanted really. Blaze orange, red, pink, zombie green or whatever color accents you wanted whether mild or wild.

Ya know I've always wanted to try that film application, but only have the families bathtubs to do rifle-length projects. There are some awesome film patterns out there.

There are some good patterns.

I use a plastic storage container. It costed about $15 and I've used it a lot.
