I did a slight modification to my 783 chambered in .243. I changed the barrel to a Shilen 6.5 that I chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor and threaded and did away with the barrel nut. Head spaced it with a shoulder like a 700.
Checked the action for trueness and faced the front perpendicular to the bolt. Put a 90 degree crown on the muzzle.
Installed an EGW 20 MOA 1 pc. base and a Boyd's Pro Varmint stock. I think it looks pretty good. Still in the process of working up a load for it. First 3 shots made 1 ragged hole.
Wish I knew how to post a pic.

I'm trying to figure out the Photo Bucket deal. The group is 5 shots @ 100 yds. That's with handloads. I tried to work up a load that was more accurate than the others but 100 yards is not far enough to be able to tell any difference. 4 different 5 shot groups and all would fit in 1 of those 1 inch squares.

I'd say that's a great shooter Joe.Nice lookin stock and glad to see your 783 shoots so well. Makes me wonder what groups my old 700 might do with handloads.

Handloads would probably improve accuracy. Sometimes you can try different ammo and find 1 that it shoots better than others. I have a 700 KS in 7mmRM and it shoots the green box Remington Core Lokt ammo better than any thing else. Have shot groups in the.1 range.
