I don't know but I was looking at a video by an individual calling himself the Yankee Marshall. He bead blasted his to a supposedly stainless finish.

I believe I saw that video also and that was what got me to thinking about doing it myself if I can make sure I have a stainless slide. The link posted by shooter13 didn't say anything about stainless it just said steel.

According to Gunblast.com it has a 416 stainless steel slide with a black oxide finish. Remington also made a run of commemorative RM380's with a stainless slide in a natural finish. Not all the sites say.. so...

I went through that recently about the PM's, it seems you have to have 30 posts before you can PM someone.
I am having a problem with my post in the 40X sub forum disappearing, I have had it go away twice so far. I PMed Shooter13 and maybe he can figure it out. I may just have to blast my slide, I like the two tone guns. Steve....... |

Apparently I'm guilty of not reading the 8 page posting rules. In all the forums I've been part of this is my first oopps. Generally the gist of most forums is be nice to people, no commerce, no profanity and no illegal activities.
I've never run across a PM rule like this before but that's fine, they are free to make any rules they like. I'm up to 6 messages now so that means I'll likely never make it at my age. No problem...if somebody PM's me I'll just find one of their messages and reply in the forum like I did to your message. (Hopefully this isn't taken as excessive complaining or subversion and results in strike 2!) Yes, the two tone look is nice. Bead blasting leaves a rather rough finish. I used automotive polishing compound and a dremel with the cloth polishing wheels to shine it up. Good luck Steve. Leonardo |

I've ran across it (minimum posts to PM) on two other Forums I frequent...
But back to the OP, I think the guy on u tube used crushed garnet so it wasn't too aggressive. I think I might try that route and give the flats a slight polish. Steve........ |

OK, now I'm more cornfused than ever (not hard to do). I called Remington today and asked about the slide on the RM380 and the very nice lady said it is carbon steel with an oxide finish. I waited about four hours and called again (spoke to someone else this time) and asked about the composition of the slide on the RM380 and told it was carbon steel with a finish similar to parkerizing called oxide. Some of you guys and that Yankee Marshall guy on u tube said their slides are stainless under the oxide finish. What to do what to do, I feel most of you guys are cognitive enough to tell if something is stainless or not but Remington made them and the representatives were reading from their info on their computers so I'm still not sure.

Not 100% sure on the stainless steel. It is magnetic, but some stainless steel is. What I do know is it has been 3 months since I did mine and it looks the same today. Generally, unprotected carbon steel starts to rust. Even more so when it is carried in a sweaty pocket! I'd say it is highly likely stainless. |
