Pretty much what I've wondered. This is the same company (more or less) which made the original Model 51. Did someone lose the blue prints?

The Model 51 was only on the market about 6 years, hardly a resounding success! Everything he designed looked like a Rube Goldberg concoction! I'm sure he did some good work but he ain't JMB!

Just got this back today from Remington.

That gun is schedule for the second quarter of this year. It has been approved and sometime during the second quarter is when we will start shipping them."

Thanks for the update Trackercasey. This backs up the info I posted around the first week of February. I hope the R51 Gen 2 beta testing will begin soon for those of us who have been waiting so long.

If businesses would make people lock their cellphones up in a locker (OUT OF REACH) during the day while they are supposed to be concentrating on details required to perform their duties accurately, we wouldn't have this R-51 problem. Plus, the world would be a safer place to drive. We live in a "side-tracked" society, especially over the past 10 - 15 years with technology consuming the minds of people who are supposed to be "on-the-ball". Time sure has changed. Glad I'm "old & retired".

I, too, am old and retired. And glad of it.

I don't think cell phones and technology are the real problem although they may add to it.

I think the real problem is the education system. I haven't so much as seen an ad for a tool and dye school or a machinist school or any trade school for that matter.

And when I called and talked to them about 3 weeks ago they said "We have been instructed to say we are still working on it." They have reneged on "2nd quarter."

I just wish they would tell us the truth. I would think by now they would understand all they have done be keeping everything secret is to piss people off.

Better to get it right than to rush it out. I want it and I want it now doesn't always help....IMHO. Remington does not want to blow it twice on the same firearm.

I agree and that makes good sense. Add to that how long it has been since the problem was noted as well. It has been a couple of years now!

Just a 73 year old grumpy old man trying desperately trying to find someone who is willing to share some information on when I'll get the replacement for my R51 which worked fine, that I returned 2 years ago.

That's the most positive response from Remington I've heard so far regarding the R-51. Final stages of "TESTING".
I'm sure there's some of us, like me, who would like to know what they actually did to correct the 1st Gen failures, or corrective action(s) for each of the many types of failures the R-51 displayed. And for others, "Who cares, as long as it delivers reliability." But still, I'd like to know... if anyone hears of such info, let us know please.

Well, hopefully "very close" doesn't mean another couple of years as other "nearly ready" notifications have.

Guys and Gals,

10:22AM on 06/10/2016 - The R51 production team has a BIG announcement coming up about the release date for the Gen 2. Keep your eyes open for a barrage of electronic information to the loyal R51 owners and an eblast to announce the re-launch to the rest of the gun world in the next few weeks. The approvals have all been made, the suppliers are all on board, the plant is fabricating (has already built 100's, tested and proved reliable) and distribution is preparing to package them to send out the first ones to those that have stuck it out and have been loyal (although exasperated) to Remington. From what I have been told over the past few months about how it has been thoroughly tested and painstakingly inspected, this next version is going to be GREAT! The redesign and the durability of the Gen 2 will extend its longevity to make it an heirloom for generations to come...like its predecessor the Model 51. If you sent your original R51 back for the voluntary recall repairs and have been waiting like I have for almost 2 years...the wait is almost over. It will be so nice to be able to talk about the performance of the new Remington R51 - Generation 2 Pistol and put behind us all of the other conspiracy stuff that has been posted on this forum. It is rather apropos that this re-release will happen in their 200th year anniversary. I will be honest that I have also been skeptical, but have hoped what I was being told was correct (even though the time line kept getting pushed back until they could make sure it met their QC requirements...this time).

Congratulations to Mr. Marcotuli for having the tenacity to verify the quality of every single one the details, and to the Remington engineers, designers, and mechanics that have worked to get it right before the marketers are allowed to hype it up. I hope this has been a lesson learned for all gun makers, albeit there could have been some improvements on the communication side. And to the person that has kept me up to date (so I could keep you guys informed of the real facts) I am very appreciative.

Mine is being shipped! Soon to be an R51 Gen 2 Beta tester,

Even though I took the R1 replacement you can bet I'll be getting another R51 when they hit the market. Thank you for the update!

Not sure if this was sent to everyone on their mailing list/general public or just those who called in/returned their R51 ?

Well, I returned mine, and have inquired several times since by email, and I didn't get that email notification. I sent them another email last night but now I may call this afternoon.

Thanks for passing this on.
