Hello all,
Steve a.k.a. "Stix" from Colorado here. Just purchased a 783 compact from Gander Mountain in .308. Got a great price....$249 minus the $40 rebate = $209. It's the scope combo. Did some research and found that it's a Hunan scope, who makes the Bushnell Custom scope, an exclusive made for Gander Mountain. I did nothing but cycle a few rounds so far. No hang ups. Will take it to the range Saturday and see how she shoots.
I was previously a lever action Marlin guy, loving those short carbines in .30-30 for my timber work for all big game out here. Never like the longer bolt actions because the Marlins were so much easier to handle in the timber, where I do most of my hunting for deer, bear and elk. No I got a bolt action (783 compact) that handles pretty darn close to those Marlins, with a heck of alot more knock down power, especially for elk, and maybe an upcoming moose hunt.
Gonna try some 180 grain federal power shoks in it, and maybe some 180 core-lokt PSP's.
Looking forward to conversing with you all.
