Need help!!! I apologize in advance for the length of this post! I ordered a pair of replacement bolt springs for my 597 .22lr. (FTF issues) The original springs are the same size for the entire length of the spring and fit fine into the short, enlarged portion of the guide rod slot milled into the rear of the bolt. The springs I received from Midway USA, Rem part# F300007, (listed for .22lr not .22 Mag.) have a larger diameter at both ends for about the last 1.5 turns. These springs do not appear to fit into the milled recess.
The photo of the spring on the Midway site shows the non-enlarged spring. (Not what I received) I double checked my order and several web sites and the part number is correct for my gun. Was there a part change? Could I have a Mag bolt in a LR gun?(Doubt it). Could a member look at theirs and let me know what you have? Could this be why so many 597 owners report FTF problems? There is obviously some confusion here, at least on my part!! Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
The only springs I can find for 597 with small ends (other than Midways incorrect pic) are PN# F300110 and F300111. Both of these are for the 597 .22 Mag.
I did some further research and came up with this:
Remington site- Rem #F300007, spec'd. for 597 22lr. Pic shows large ends.
Brownells site- Brownell #767-000-270WB. Rem #F300007, spec'd. for 597 .22lr. Pic shows large ends.
Numrich site- Numrich #746350. Rem #F300007 spec'd. for 597 22lr. Pic shows large ends.
Midway USA site- Midway #117070. Rem #F300007 spec'd. for 597 22lr. Pic shows small ends.

I think maybe Remy changed the design. I have a 2000ish 597 .22lr and it has original springs like yours. I've not bought replacements though so it's only a guess to be honest. Can u fit the ones into your gun OK or do the enlarged coils stop this?
Ps: Sorry I can't be of more help. |

I can get the new springs into the bolt recesses but the fit doesn't feel right. E-mailed Remington and their response was " Maybe they (Midway) sent you the wrong part." They did not bother to tell me whether there was a part change or what the correct spring looks like. Not much help. I noticed that the new springs are also slightly longer. Haven't had time to test fire the gun yet so no resolution so far.

I really don't understand this company's policy anymore...
What the hell happened to customer service and satisfaction !? I myself would see what a gunsmith could do to solve this problem... |

Yeah, gunsmith who's familiar with 597s or better yet has a brand new one (which would have the revised springs if they are revised design) would likely know...
Did you ask Midway? Failing that give the gin a go with them in - would be very interested in results either way. |
