I had a 7400 that I bought new in 2003. I had to sell it due to the GR. I missed the gun being left handed and decided to buy one back. I found this one made in 1980. One of the first to come off the line for this model. I had to call Rem. to get a DOB. I paid about the same as I sold my other one for 450. No scope but I bought a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 Matte BDC for it and a set of Weaver rings. I don't know what the value of these run today, and another question, were the early models of the 7400 superior to the later models? Thanks in advance

Sounds like you did OK on the price if it was around $450. These 7400 models use the new improved bolt and gas system over the 742 as I am sure you know. I have a Model Four which is the same as yours with a couple enhancements and have seen the 7400 and Model four sell from $450 to around $550 on Gun Broker. Am not sure if our earlier ones are better quality control wise than later produced ones but I would prefer an earlier produced one due to QC problems with some of the guns produced lately. Yours looks to be in great shape too. I might add mine has not jammed either. Best wishes and hope this helps.
