All,

New to the forum, but not new to the 1911. Old, cranky, retired Army so I had a lot of experience with the 1911 while on active duty. However, the WWII/Korea/Vietnam 1911's we were issued were not great pieces of hardware. During the "Carter Era" we barely had enough $$ in our unit budgets to feed ourselves and keep the vehicles running, never enough to adequately maintain our firearms and get enough range time to really be proficient with our issue weapons. By the time we had sufficient funding, we were converting to the Beretta 92 9mm. As expected, I've always had a bias against the .45 as a really accurate pistol. I own several poylmer 9mms and .40s, and on a lark about a month & a half ago, rented a Taurus PT 1911 .45 and put a box of 230 grain ball ammo down range with it. Man, I was much more accurate with it, was tearing holes in my targets with 7 rd groups, and so excited when I left the range I told all my work/shooting buddies I couldn't wait to get a 1911 .45 again. Did a lot of research and as luck would have it, the PX had a sale about 2 weeks later. They only had the R1S in stock, and I jumped on it. What a great gun and I'm having so much fun with it, converted my son to a 1911 fan on Fathers Day. He went into the gun shop yesterday and traded in his S&W M&P .40 with some add'l change for a R1S.

As is, halleljah, I am ReConverted. Considering getting rid of all my polymer pistols and replacing them with more 1911s.
