I have a 700 ADL that has what I think is Remington's "RKW Bowling Pin Finish" that I read about on page 47 of the NRA's 12/12 "American Rifleman" magazine . It is a real thick glossy clear finish. It is 100% except for a tiny bit of dulling @ the very edge of the cheek-piece...only maybe 3" long X 1/4" wide max...very slight...looks a bit dull in that area. But I'd like to get this small area in mint condition as well if it's not a lot of work. I'm thinking of masking everything off except for an area about an 1" wide on the cheek-piece only, very lightly ruffing that area with steel wool & then spraying on some type gloss varnish. Anyone have any ideas on this one?

:D Just thought I'd let folks know that I posted in another forum on this same issue & was advised to wet the dull area with water & then gently rub in POLISHING COMPOUND (not rubbing compound) with a damp cotton cloth. TRIED IT & IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! ! !!! Took about four hours to do an area maybe 3" long by 1/4" wide @ one end that tapered to 0" @ the other but the stock is now LIKE NEW! Sit back in the ol' easy chair, turn on the rodidio to occupy your noggin, check your progress every 15 mins. & stay very patient. Very happy.
