How Much Of A Problem Is This?

Remington should replace this with a new correctly produced R1.

File the lugs so the contact is only above the link slot.

Does anyone here see anything good or right with the way this vertical impact surface has been cut? Many others have tried to get a resolution from Remington for this problem, but I've not heard from any who have been successful. Other owners have been keeping track of other R1's and indicate that some are cut this way and some are done correctly.

Notice in the pics that manual racking results in contact only at the lower end of the lugs. Contact under live fire is from the lower end of the lugs up to the top of the remaining vertical impact surface. This seems as if the greater force under live fire is bending the lugs enough to produce more contact.

If it fires correctly and is accurate, I would not worry about it but some one else will chime in shortly. You could always sent the pictures to Remington and see what their response is.

I'm told that this bevel is supposed to have @ 1/16" face, and that lower lug contact with the vertical surface will cause the lugs to snap off.

This is the barrel bed contact.

I would just send those pictures to Remington VIA Email and also call them before sending them. Especially if yours came with the Platinum Service.

I can't believe that Remington is proud of that workmanship. Even for a lower end production gun.

I'd raise my concerns for sure and make them do it on their dime to preserve whatever warranty is in the pistol.

FWIW: barrel lugs striking low on the Vertical Impact Surface will eventually shear from the torsional stress of impact, unless the barrel bed in front of the web becomes battered sufficiently to cause a stoppage before the catastrophic event occurs. In either case, in either case the afflicted pistol has a short life expectancy. Discussions posted on the 1911 Forum are quite illuminating: http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=354434

I sent my R1 for Platinum Service with a letter explaining my concern for the frame cut and contact point at the front of the lug/takedown pin. They called and left a message for me to call and discuss it, but was unable to connect with them even with the "leave a call back number" option. Eventually they sent it back with a service report indicating that is was perfectly fine and no action was taken.

Then I received a customer satisfaction survey, asking about my experience. I replied that the pistol was received in the original unacceptable condition. They requested that I send it back, and I asked for another return envelope & sent the pics shown here and additional images of the front lug contact, explaining the eventual result of the improper fit.

That was at least 2 weeks ago, no envelope has arrived, and subsequent emails to customer service have produced no replies.

My 1st Remington experience will absolutely be my last.
