R51 was returned back to me by Remington, traded it for a S&W Shield 9.

I just spoke to customer service regarding my R51. He confirmed that the R51 was made at Para USA in Pineville, NC. He said he didn't know if the plan was replace or repair at this point - he had heard both. He said that they were told two weeks ago that they had a fix and the guns would be heading out "within the next week or two". Now he says he doesn't have any idea when they will be returned. I asked about serial numbers and if that had anything to do with repair or replace. My R51 is in the 2000 range. He said he didn't think so. According to him, there is supposed to be a large group of engineers that are checking each return over prior to return and also that the number of R51's that have been returned is fairly small compared to the number produced.
The long and short of it is - I had mine 6 days prior to return - they have had it 8 weeks tomorrow - I do not know when (or if) I might expect to have a R51 in my safe. |

I actually created a new service ticket referencing my repair number and requested a buy back - or refund. I did that on April 30. I have yet to have anyone acknowledge my request.
I was also told yesterday that they have a mountain of email there and are hiring temps to go through it all. This whole experience has really soured me on Remington. I knew I was temping fate buying a new design gun at release. I was really taken with the reports from the Shot Show and thought it is an update of an old design. Who knew? I guess I will see how they resolve things before I cross all Remington products off of my list completely. |

Did they already have you gun back, or did you negotiate the refund and now you're going to send it to them? -Calvin |

I contacted Remington for the 4th time last Thursday the 22nd. At that time they had had my R51 for 8 weeks and one day. I had previously requested (about 2 weeks earlier) the gun be repaired/updated and returned to me within a week or refund my purchase price. At that time, while I was on hold (ignore) a manager was consulted and a refund was approved. Was told that the process would take up to 2 weeks.
My conversation with them on the 22nd, I was told that the refund approval had to go thru 3 levels of management and be approved at all 3 levels. They said that had been completed the day before and it had gone to "finance" for a check to be issued. Checks are only written once per month. I was told that it would be at least a month before I would get my refund. I have names, dates, and times of everyone that I have talked to. If the refund is not here within a month, I will be making a trip to NY or NC or where ever I need to go to get this resolved. At this point it is not about money. |
I talked to Remington customer service on the 3rd, they told me to send them a copy of my receipt and they would buy the gun back. Receipt is in the mail, I live in NC, so hopefully I will see a check soon and put this farce behind me. This is NOT the same company that I bought firearms from in the 70s & 80s. They have lost their way. Is it Freedom Group or does nobody there care anymore. |
|
Are they reimbursing you what you paid for it ? No it is not the same company I bought from in 1962. A Nylon 12 bolt action, scoffed at as a plastic gun for years, Excellent firearm in fit, finish and accuracy. Paid 39.99 for it and know I can get at least 500-600 dollars in the condition it is in. |

I sure as hell hope so! We'll have to see, pain and suffering too. They killed the Nylon 66 too, might have been the most reliable .22 on the market. Can't find them used!!! |

I don't believe they have any idea how to fix it. I sent 3 E-mails and never got an answer. I also said if they could not make it run like the add said, to just buy it back. Finally talked to a customer rep that said to send the invoice and they would by it back. Of course , we'll really see if that happens. I'm not sure I believe them. They need to put on their big boy pants, issue a recall and just take responsibility for this mess. Of course they have about a dozen other recalls going on so they are probably "punch drunk". I told them that Springfield Armory owned up to the problems with the XDS and maybe they could learn something from them. If they really let Para build the R51 that was their first mistake.

In the mail today was a check from Remington for the full purchase price, including my state sales tax for my R51. I am surprised that I actually received a refund, and I am VERY disappointed in Remington for their poor quality of the R51. As I have stated in other posts, I have long ago replaced the R51 with a Springfield XDs 9mm. Life is too short to put up with a poor quality gun. |

"Life is too short to put up with a poor quality gun" .....Amen. Wish I could of got a refund instead of a return, but at that time a refund wasn't offered and I didn't think to ask. Just glad to get it back and traded for a real gun. Glad to hear your over the whole Remington/R51 communication or lack of rather.....

Great news! I received my refund check in the mail today! So my three and a half month nightmare is over so this is my last post. I think that I will stop at the range and shoot my Sig P290rs (new after they agreed to refund - and I love it!) in celebration. No more BIG GREEN R's at my house. |
