I just bought a remington 700 sps tactical and the gunsmith is putting on a magazine conversion but it only uses ruger magazines has anyone else tried this conversion?

Haven't heard of that conversion before but am interested to hear how it works out for you.

Good luck and post up when you get a chance to try it out.

Supposed to pick it up Friday. The gunsmith said it is what he did to his 700. There are a lot of conversions out there but this was a cheaper one that is why it only uses the ruger scout magazines.

Remington 700 SPS Tactical with a detachable magazine conversion that uses Ruger Scout .308 magazines and a Nikon 3-9x50 Matte BDC Prostaff scope.

Looks pretty darn good!

What was the cost on that if you don't mind me asking? And how is it working for you?

I've been thinking of converting my internal mag to detachable one, but have been hesitant because most of the lower cost options do not review very well. I can't justify spending nearly the cost of my gun again on a custom mag conversion....at least not in the foreseeable future anyway.

Reviews on the (out of the box) lower cost conversions seem to always have some issue with fit or function or the mag rattles or some darn thing.

It fits good. It will only use ruger Scout steel magazines. I had bought some polymer ones that ruger made but they would not fit in properly and lock in. The conversion was $210 and cost me $30 to have the gunsmith mill the stock to make it fit. The rifle $699, Scope $240, Mag conversion $210, bipod $40, and to have gunsmith put it together and mill the stock $30. I dont know the brand of the conversion it was the one the gunsmith recommended and the same one he did to his rifle.

Thanks for the info!!

Any idea if the conversion kit works with calibers other than .308 &/or variations of the same kit? My 700 is chambered in .270 Win....pretty common caliber.

Any chance you could check with your gunsmith as to the manufacturer of the kit?

The magazine conversion that pancake0070 used is most likely a Detachable Box Mag conversion kit patterned after the Accuracy International Magazine (AICS mag for short).

If you get an ACIS patterned bottom metal or chassis for that matter in the 300 win mag pattern you should be fine. The magazine will require little to no fitting to feed the .270 win due to the 300 win mag being .043" longer in OAL and the .270 win has a slightly narrower neck.

Check out the "Remington 700 Aftermarket Stock OPTIONS CHOICES" thread to get an idea on manufactures and options. If you need anymore help or guidance just PM me.
