While poking around on the internet today I noticed that Gander Mountain has a $30 rebate if you purchase an R51 there. Too bad the guys at the sales counter did not even know about it.

Gander mountain (at least in my neck of the woods) is normally so overpriced that a person has to take advantage of their price match policy to make considering purchasing from them reasonable. I was more than happy to not only take advantage of the price match policy but the rebate on two R51's. If I recall correctly, there is no limit to how many rebates a person can submit, but the purchase had to have occurred by April 23.

You are quite right about the multiple uses of the rebate. On another Gander Mountain note when I searched their site by manufacture it did not show the R51 listed I had to google "Gander Mountain R51" to find it. Hopefully the search filter just blocked out an item not in stock. -Deuce "If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics suck." -John Steinbeck

All of these big name stores...Gander Mt / Cabela's / Dick's / Bass Pro...have gotten a bit pricey.
Just about all my firearm / ammo purchases over the years have been through private seller sales, local Mom & Pop gun shops/ranges, and gun shows in the Pennsylvania area. I'm lucky to live in a state that still allows this type of activity to flourish...surrounding states like New York, New Jersey, and Maryland residents are not as fortunate ! |

Ouch oh please don't remind me. I'm stuck in the USSNY. Although I can see the freedom of the Pennsylvania Delaware Valley from by back door. This is what it must have felt like living in East Germany in the 1980's Berlin. "If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics suck." -John Steinbeck

I purchased mine through GM. I had to point out the $30. off the regular price of $429.00 in their flyer to the clerk. They were already matching a price I had from Fin Feather & Fur & wouldn't do any more off for me.

Right, the $30 off in the flyer is by mail in rebate. The clerk doesn't have any say in your mailing the rebate form in.
Edited to add: If a person really wanted to be technical, Gander mountains price match policy would allow them to get a price match retroactively up to 14 days after the purchase. http://m.gandermountain.com/customer-se ... licy.shtml |

$420.00 MSRP by Remington. Retailers starting at $399.00. Mom & Pop Shops starting at $389.00. All within the price of a box of good (premium) ammo. I paid $399.00 at Gander Mountain 2 different times purchasing the $429.00 R51 because I told them I'd give 'em $399. Instant $30 rebate... no postage either. Of course, having a basket of their products in the cart helps before you offer them YOUR PRICE. For $29.99, get the plan they offer. Get to know their 'gunsmith'. He'll be exposed to many R51 related complaints and eventually will get some answers to the R51 problems. It's still early boys & girls. I still have confidence in the new R51 program and it'll be just a little while longer before the reliability issues are resolved. "CARRY" your old reliable pistol for now. This will be a "carry" pistol soon, and how sweet it will be.

Rick,
That's the same deal I got at GM. My location no longer has a gunsmith so they send guns out to other locations. The $29.99 was well worth it as they will ship my R51 back to Remington as many times as needed within that 3 year period. Remington paid for the first trip back and who knows how many times they'll offer that. TD |

TD, I hate to hear that you don't have the onsite gunsmith any longer. But, still, the maintenance program that Gander Mountain is well worth the 30 bucks. Heck, just one cleaning is worth $70.00. And the support (i.e., shipping for warranty) is awesome. I'll continue to be a Gander Mountain customer. I just bought a Colt Government Model 80 in Stainless Steel 45ACP, a $1400 M.S.R.P. pistol they had for $1299. I said, "I'll give you a grand for it." They sold it to me for $999.00... no questions asked. Added the $29.99 maintenance plan on that one too. That was the 5th pistol I've purchased from the in the last 3 months. I suppose that helped with the price, but, I did present my offer verbally... with a smile of course. |

Gander may wheel & deal on new guns but it seems that used guns seem to fetch a premium price.
On most ammo they are HTTBOAG. TD |
