Folks, I'm new to the forum, but not to 1100's. I own five.
My neighbor brought over his 1100 20 gauge to tear down and clean. It's an older ("L" = 68-73) heavy frame 20, with the X subscript on the SN. His question to me was how could he get a rifled barrel for it for sabot rounds. I thought that would be easy, but after some extensive searches, I could not find one.
Does anyone know if any manufacturer ever made a rifled barrel for the 20 gauge heavy frame? Hastings only makes them for the LT and says definitively their barrels will not work with the heavy frame models (i.e. those with the X subscript on the SN.) Thanks for any help on this issue.

To the best of my knowledge, he is out of luck. Never made for the standard frame 20 and the newer LW or LT barrels will not fit.
What could have happened... did.

Barrel was a snug fit at first, but fits like a glove after two boxes of shells through it. Perfect functionality, no jams or malfunctions. Bead was centered great on mine, and POA=POI. Makes a great Home Defense 870 set up, the gun weighs about 6lbs and with buckshot recoils like a 12 gauge with heavy target load. I am convinced a 20 gauge Remington 870 with this barrel and #3 buckshot is the ultimate Home Defense shotgun.
