I have a model 700 BDL with the factory trigger. I took it to a gunsmith about 3 years ago to have the trigger pull lightened. He reduced down to 3.5 lbs but wouldnt take it any lower because he said (get this) he wouldn't feel safe. Anyway, I was looking at the Xmark pro adjustable triggers and wondered if this was something I could put on my rifles (I have 4 model 700's) to adjust them lighter and acheive some tighter groups at long range. Can anyone help?

I have factory triggers on all 4 of my 700 series rifles and each was done by a local feller here in Tucson.

All are at 2.5 lbs. And break like a glass rod, and have never had a problem.

Were it me, I would go with an aftermarket trigger, or find a better smith. Just me tho.

I may take your advice and just find another gunsmith. I thought about tackling the job myself, but I'm not confident enough to take that on.

Thx for your help.

Good plan! Though the triggers are not hard to adjust, it is wise to have someone that knows them, do the adjustment.

I will also say, that a good trigger does not need to be ultra lite, but it does need to break very cleanly.

I agree 100% that a good trigger is not necessarily lite, but most accurate triggers are. All of my 4 and fathers 3 model 700's are hunting rifles. Ever since I was 13 we have been on this head and neck shot only kick after I lost a Boone & Crockett buck after it ran around the hillside where my neighbor (claims) he put the kill shot on it which I doubt very seriously being that I blew both lungs out on the ground with A 30-06 220gr core-lokt round. Since that day we have head shot almost 95 percent of our deer. It's hard to shoot a deer in the head at 300 yards with a 4lb trigger.
