I've had a 338RUM for quite some time now but even when I acquired it, ammo was hard to find locally. I could generally find the 7RUM and 300RUM but not 338. I resigned myself to believing this was going to be a short lived orphaned caliber much like the 8mmMag. If all the RUMS are destined to fade away, my guess is the 300 will be the last to go. Your thoughts on all three.

I wish Remington in general did a better job supporting their cartridges. They are too willing to drop their creation in favor of the Winchester round. The 280 last time I checked was only available in 1 gun as well as the 260 both great calibers. They dropped their 6mm in favor of the 243 when in some areas the 6mm is more popular. I spoke to a Remington affiliated rep at the NRA show in Pittsburgh and was told that the 6mm was one of the most requested guns that is not in production. I am tired of vanilla ice cream and want to see some real variety not just the same 5 calibers with different stocks and finishes. How about a 7600 in 260, 25-06, 6mm, 280, and 35rem or whelen.

I took my 338RUM to the range a week ago Saturday. I changed out scopes (in order to fashionable) with a silver Leupold 3.5 - 10. Once I got it dialed in I settled down and with factory premium ammo. shot a 3/4" group right where I wanted it. Now to take it out to the field.
