First off, my stepdad let me borrow his old 870 express magnum for the past 2 years because he bought a new benelli. Ive been talking to him about buying it to make it my gun. What is a 21 year old 870 express magnum 12ga with 28" field barrel and a smooth slug barrel worth? It does have a problem, which leads me to my second question.

What would cause a shell not to chamber? Randomly, usually on the last shell in the tube. If i tap it on the stock hard, the shell will come out of the tube, or i have to pull the shell out manualy sometimes. Its not to bad when im huntimg because usually i dont need all shells, but when shooting clays i pull the trigger and nothing happens its an annoyance.

Thanks in advance,
Mat

First answer: $500-$550

Second answer: it's the plug, I have a 870 express mag and it did the same thing. What is happening is the spring spreads open letting the plug get hung in the spring. I solved it by taking the spring retainer out, pull the plug out, but leave the spring in the tube. I believe I used a nickel and dropped it on top of the spring (using it as a spacer since its wider than the spring and plug) then put the plug in ( big end first ) then put the spring retainer back in.

I think that price is a little high. I bought my 870 Express Slug Gun new off the shelf at a sporting goods store for right around $450 about 6 years ago.
If it's brown, it's down.

I will not comment on the price as it is relative to what one wants and what one wants to give.

If you will replace the crappy original spring follower with this one it will fix your problems
