So I took out my 887 Tactical shooting yesterday and I was cleaning it last night. So when I was cleaning it I was attempting to take apart the bolt assembly to clean the firing pin and bolt carrier and bolt head. So there are two pins that you should beable to take out which are the firing pin retaining pin and the cam pin. So the cam pin took some beating out to get loose and out and the retaining pin wouldn't budge for the longest time. So after about 30 minutes the retaining pin was finally out. I proceeded to clean out the carbon and lube it all up. As I was putting it all back together I got the cam pin in and the retaining pin will only go halfway in and no further. Its not hit the firing pin so I don't know what the deal is. These pins are suppose to be fairly easy to get in and out for proper cleaning of the bolt assembly. Does anybody have any suggestions or this same problem??

I never disassembled a bolt that far. Does it have tapered pins? Perhaps they will only go in one way.

If you don't disassemble the bolt that far then the firing pin will gain so much carbon on it that it will lead to misfires and the springs will lose their tension and the bolt head will gain carbon build up that it wouldn't rotate correctly to chamber the round and lead to rough action. The pins are not tapered that are smooth and so is the holes. So it makes absolutely no sense. Only thing I can think of is that either the bolt carrier is already warped from only putting 200 something rounds through it through the course of its life or that the pins were not formed properly when they were produced.

Interesting. I had an 11-87 for a few years and my dad has had an 1100 since I was a kid and never had to do this.

Sounds like either something is out of alignment in the pins path or something has warped.

I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment. Do you have a gunsmith nearby?

They will come off but they will only come off 1 way since the pin is bigger from the other side.

IF i remember right, cant check now, you need to hit them from left to right, you need to use some kind of tap and hammer to get it all the way out. Also remember to support the bolt against some rubber or such so you wont scratch it.

It will take some force but not too much, gentle taps with a hammer should do.

Also when assembling it make sure the firing pin and bolt are in correct positions or the pins wont go back in.
