I've honestly read more negative press for these shotguns than I ever have positive. I decided to purchase an 887 used and I can't say enough good about this shotgun. I've shot over 250 rounds of 12 ga through my 887 anything from 2 3/4 00 buck to 3 1/2 pheasant and duck loads. I've yet to have any issues with failure to load, or fire. I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of aftermarket support for the 887 but for 250 bucks this 12ga hasn't done me wrong

Nice! I've looked at the 887 before but decided to go with the 870 cause of the aftermarket support. Good luck with you 887 I hope it serves you well! |

Sounds like you have a keeper!

I love how it fires and the action.. But right now I am having problems with getting the bolt back together. The pins will not go back in correctly and they were hard as hell to get out in the first place...

I was hesitant to get my 887 (bought it the same time as the 870) but this thing's a keeper. I've had more fun with slugs out of this than either of my other two shotguns combined.
I DID have some issues with feeding, but after some weight training (lol dead serious), it turned out to just be an issue of short-shucking. Problem solved and now happily blasting away! |

I bought my 887 two years ago thinking that my mossberg 930 was out of commission. Then turned out that nothing seriously was wrong with my auto loader then my 887 pump became my back up gun. This year of bird season turned out really successful, . But the auto loader is quite heavy gun to swing into action fast, I gave it a rest and brought out the 887. Holy shit is the 887 pump one hell of a light gun, my swing into action is twice as fast and really quick to acquire birds in flight. The trigger to butt is a little shorter than the auto loader which made a pleasure to draw and shoot. My 887 nitro mag,is completely camp painted by myself, the front bead is still attached. The only other modification I made was removing that stupid slider plate that covers the bolt. It was the cause of jams. This gun cycles no problem. A very light gun ,my paint is still well covered and a few scratches here and there, with some blood stains that is expected , the soft recoil pad is the best. I would never get rid of this pump it has turned out to be quite a work horse. Its good to have one shotgun that can take 3.5" shells on hand. Both of my shotguns are my favorite.

Sounds good. I bet you appreciate that soft recoil pad with a 3.5" shell. I went shotgunning two days ago, shooting just 2.75" shells of bird shot and #4, and after around thirty or so shells, my shoulder was sore. Getting old I guess! USMC 83' - 87'

Yeah last years fall hunt I bought a box of those nitro mag steels, the 1700 fps ones, holy shit those shells really had a bad recoil. I could not stand straight shooting three in a row. I remember kneeling down, and in took my shot at approaching geese, the recoil knocked me back on my butt. It was actually funny if someone was there hunting with me. But I was alone with the dog retriever.
