Does anyone know if the Model 1100's that come in 16 gauge can shoot steel shot? Looking to start early season waterfowl hunting with an made in U.S.A. shotgun.

yes they can, good luck finding affordable ammo....hopefully you can find something that will pattern to suit you.
We have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!

Remington used to say any barrel made since 1950, and any choke modified or more open, and any shot #2 or smaller for steel shot. My opinion is that the shells, especially the wads, have come a long way since they used to say that. Assuming South Jersey is in the USA, I would recommend you could have choke tubes installed and shoot anything you want thereafter

I would not use them for steel. Years ago I badly damaged a shotgun barrel from an older gun shooting steel. I ran into your same problem a number of years ago after not doing much bird hunting for a lot of years. I have an older 870 and I got a new barrel for it. I think this or maybe just using bismuth is your best option. If you get a new barrel though you will have rem. chokes at that point for the 870 and 1100 also. I do think heavy shot has a few buffered shot selections also.

As long as the choke tubes are rated for it you can shoot steel through them. Mike Orlen can fix you up a lot cheaper than a new barrel, and he does excellent work.
