Hello. Let me start by saying that i have fired the 870 many times, and I'm rather familiar on how to operate it. That being said, i do not own one, but plan on getting one. However, I do not care to leave it as is. I love to customize things to exactly how i like it. Be it computers, cars, or anything else.
Problem - I've never customized a gun before. Even though i shoot at least once a month, I've never actually bothered to make any gun different than how it came. I would like to start on possibly the most popular shot gun around - the Remington 870. Since there are so many choices for customization, i did a little research. I do as always want a second opinion. Here is the layout that i think i want.
-------------------------
I'll start with a 28 inch barrel Express. Here's why - Its NOT going to be a self defense, and its NOT going to be for hunting. Its just for shooting pumpkins and other random target for fun. Lets keep that in mind. I have a lot of privet land to shoot on, so every now and then i try to see how good i am at a distance. This drives me to want a long barrel, apposed to the short barrel in the "tactical" versions.

I plan on shooting slugs. What kind you may ask? short answer - whatever the budget allows at the time. Slugs are fun, but i don't care much for the shoulder pain afterwords. Thats why i want to get this recoil reduction stock. Its a bit pricy, but i plan on shooting all day sometimes. So why not?

The butt is just metal, so for extra comfort, im want to get this as well

that one should fit on this particular stock.
----------------------------
I do like the longer barrel 870, however they don't come with a large magazine capacity in that model. 4+1 does not tickle my fancy. So why not 9+1?

I know i will have to do some work with the dimples for it to work, but that's not a problem.
I also want to add this to aid the gun

----------------------------
in addition to the gun, i want to add this just because i can. quick target acquisition would help me beat my friends in some timed shooting with shorter distances.

---------------------------
I like the idea of adding things later, so i also want rails as well as easy ammo access. I'm thinking this will do the trick.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so i think that about covers it for now. I know its a lot of money to put on an inexpensive gun, but the reality of the situation is - why the hell not? Don't worry about the wheres and whys, i just want to know if all this will work well on the gun.
But tell me what you think never the less.

My .02, that butt stock is ugly but I've read they work OK. Adding the extended mag is good, but that follower is over priced. Looks neat though. With the extended mag, the side saddle is wasted $$, IMO. Put more shells in a small "fanny" pack in the front and adjust to your loading hand.

I'm planning on getting the gun a bi-pod of some sort and a good scope in an attempt to make it a long distance slug shooter. Just for target practice though. Dont intend for this to be used for anything other than at this point.
Want to be able to make those 150 yard shots every time. That being said, I might be on my belly for this one. thinking about getting a forend with rails on the side so i can attach a foregrip to use the pump action more like a blot action when laying down. should be interesting. |
