I own a Remington model 700 bolt action in a 30-06 caliber. I have hunted with it for several years, and this past season I was returning from the woods, and when I got to my truck I worked the bolt to remove the round from my chamber, and the bolt acted like it was stuck. I applied some pressure (more than is usually necessary), and worked the bolt. When I did the cartridge came out, but the ballistic tip was lodged in my barrel. I have shot the rifle several times and always cleaned it thoroughly after each use, and never had this problem. I am nothing of a gun smith, so I wanted to see what your opinions were as to why this happened? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Remington Owners Forum jpmorgan !!

From the sound of it, when you got in from hunting ( was it a cold / wet day ? ) the cartridge was
stuck in the chamber and the force you applied to unchamber it ripped away the ballistic tip of said cartridge. This can happen when a cold / wet cartridge gets literally frozen in the chamber...and may have well not been a problem if you had let the gun warm up before trying to clear the unfired cartridge. Sometimes in foul weather, even oil or grease can trap a cartridge and hold it fast in the chamber...

Having said that...I take it you have solved the problem. I would take care before using it the next season by testing the firearm at a range with the exact same ammo...loading only one then working the bolt to unchamber it a few times. Always run a few patches through the chamber/barrel to make sure it is clean and there is no oil or grease to impede a chambered round. Oil / grease in the chamber and barrel can cause pressures to rise and make for unsafe firing...

Thank you for your input. I have broken it down and cleaned it, and checked the barrel for any imperfections, and found none. It was very cold and rainy the day that it happened, so that was probably my problem. I'm headed to the range this weekend to check everything out in action. I thank you for your help.
