Just bought a Remington R1 on a gun auction site a few weeks ago. Brought it to the range as soon as I got it from my dealer. I think it is a Very well made gun, locks tight, on Target, finish is Quality. I would rather have a Remington than a Colt as far as a 1911. Great Firearm , Very glad that I Purchased one I would recommend it to anyone looking for a straight shooting quality 1911.
I love mine, just my opinion. You make your own choices.

Just bought R1 and took it to the range yesterday. Put 200 rounds of ball ammunition through it with no misfires, feed failures or ejection problems. As much as I loved shooting my Colt Black Army M1911, I think I enjoyed shooting this weapon much better. The three dot sights certainly improved my marksmanship. I also used several magazines I had from Army M1911A1s with no feed problems. I am looking forward to trying different types of ammunition to see how well the R1 handles them. I met a guy on the range who had the enhanced R1, and he said he had no problems with his either.

I bought one a little over a month ago. It's an Ilion NY made R-1 basic model. Not that I wouldn't be happy with one made in Alabama, but I'm in NY about an hour away from Remington. It's nice to see it's made in NY.
I've put at least 500 rounds through it, no issues. I don't see myself changing the beaver tail, trigger, or sights, I like the feel and function as is. The barrel bushing is nice and tight, everything works the way it should.
I have done a little internal trigger polishing, the usual stuff. It's smoother, feels better to me. I may remove the series 80 parts to give it a better trigger feel. That's about all I see myself doing to it.

I'm very happy with it, yes I would buy another. Well done Remington !

This is my first venture in the 1911 world. My R1 appears excellent and very well made. First range day using WWB ammo was enjoyable but I did have several (10) failure to feed issues in 125 rounds fired. I later learned that this isn't the best ammo for this weapon. I'll try something else ammo wise next time. Look forward the next outing.

When I bought my R1 Commander in 2014 I experimented with seven different ammo brands in the first 500 rounds. My only problem was with MagTech 230 gr FMJ; this being a couple of FTFeeds. Otherwise all has gone well since then. I've noticed some other members here have unfavorable comments about WWB as well. My current stockpile is Remington, Federal, Herter's and Winchester Service Grade. Other satisfactory brands have been Blazer brass and aluminum, Sellier and Bellot, PMC, and Independence. Trial and error I suppose, but after 2000 rounds my Commander pretty much likes them all.
