I have a friend that has a versa max and he is wanting to cut the barrel from 28 to 26 inches and tread it to fit Remington chokes. Does anyone know of a gunsmith that can do this? I have call many gunsmith and none of them are capable of doing it.

I will stand to be corrected, but the problem with doing that is that the probore barrel is to large to be rethreaded with any other chokes if it is cut down and there is no way to thread the barrel other than by the remington factory. As far as i know there are no after market tools .If i am wrong please respond anybody.
If you can't sell it don't buy it

I have VM Sportsman, and it has a Rem Choke barrel. There should not be any problem having it cut and rethreaded, I hope because that was my plan when I bought it.

Let me know how you make out with the barrel cutting. I would also be interested to hear the choke tube thread you use. If you can't sell it don't buy it

I plan to send the barrel to a shop that specializes in cutting and rethreading, after the first of the year. I want to shoot it some more, and while the barrel is at the shop, I want have the shell lifter adjusted so it does not droop so far below the receiver. My son has a brand-M pump that has a 24 inch barrel that handles real well; so I am planning on 24, but keep thinking that 22 would be even better. I will post a pic when finished.
