I have a 742 carbine in 308 . There are many opinions on this gun. Mostly negative. Mine has the brass stuck in the barrel after each shot, making it a single shot. The bolt goes back and picks up another shell, but can't reload with the case in the chamber. Lots of youtube instructions on disassembly,most don't get to the part about removing the barrel. Do you need a special tool for this? I'll start with cleaning out the chamber and see if this helps.

Sorry to hear about your problem...but if your firearm is not extracting the fired cartridge, and the next is the magazine is nosing up under it...then I would say talk to Remington customer service or a competant gunsmith if the gun is not under warranty.
