As the title states I am looking at either the NightForce NXS 5.5-22x 56mm ZS or Vortex Viper PST 6-24 50mm as a scope to put on my Remington Model 700 AAC SD that I will be ordering shortly. Any insight or opinions on either? I do not want to cut any corners building my 700 but there is a fairly large price gap between these two scopes. I would be open to other suggestions as well.

I know it's hard to argue with Nightforce performance and quality, but I'd have a hard time paying three times as much for glass as I did for the rifle. Specs and their impact on performance can be compared and debated all day, but I've seen old timers at the range with cheapo scopes put up sub-MOA groups all day long. It all comes down to what it's worth to you and whether or not you think paying the extra $$$ will get you better results on paper.

Looking forward to a review. I'm thinking about picking up the 4-16x version of this to install on a Winchester Coyote 7 WSM. If I like it, I can see the 6-24x going on a Ruger .220 Swift, and another 4-16 going on an as of yet unpurchased R700 heavy barreled .308.

Well, I broke down and bought both the 4-16x50 PST and the 6-24x50 PST. Unfortunately, the 6-24x arrived after I went back to work, so I didn't get to play with it at all, and I only had time to take a cursory glance at the 4-16x. I hope to get at least one of them mounted up this weekend, maybe both.

I'm still interested in picking up a Nightforce, likely a 3.5-15x50, although if I get around to building a .338 Edge it will likely get the 5.5-22x50. Unless I get a chance to look through a 56mm NF, and it completely astounds me, I can't see myself getting anything other than a 50mm objective. Mounting becomes a bit of an issue with objectives that big. But NF has so many reticle and turret options, I'm totally lost as to what I want.

I haven't gotten to the range, in fact only one is mounted on a rifle, but I'm surprised how big these scopes are. Leupold 2.5-8, PST 4-16x, PST 6-24x, Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40.

I ordered a PST 6-24 ffp half a year ago or more. Still back ordered.

A review I read on optics planet or optics talk or something by a "Jon A" sold me on the PST and vortex as a company.

You can't beat Vortex's lifetime warranty. That's what got me when I was looking for a magnifier to go with my Eotech.

I took a look at the rings that JonA makes, and the look pretty respectable. I may look into them next time I mount a scope on a rail. Of course, the Seekins rings I bought are pretty impressive.

Next project I will contact himfor sure. Maybe to mount a 4x16 ffp on an M14 build.

As for my 6-24 ffp, it's mounted with low Burris xtr's on a badger 20 minute base. Clears the barrel by around 1/8th of an inch if I recall correctly.

The glass is very clear, blows any scope I've used out of the water (best of which was a millet 6-24x56)

Beautiful reticle, turrets, clicks. It's everything I expected and more!
