Want to cut a 28" mod fix choke barrel down for hd. and was wanting to know which length would pattern best and how close to cyl. will it be. I know that shorter means better all round
in close areas so which do you all do more often?

I have a barrel in both 18.5 and 20" and feel that the 18.5 is better for HD but if you are looking for a more all around length I would go with the 20". You can't go wrong with either.

I'm in the process of modifying my 870 express for HD. The magazine extension tube I have extends out to match a 20" barrel. I plan on cutting it to 18.5, threading it and installing a breacher choke to get the length back to around 20.

I know that's a bit more than most will do, but hey, I'm not the norm LOL


Bottom line, I would look at the accessories you plan on using and size accordingly.
