I shot this big 11 point in November 2010 at my family's property just outiside of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, Canada. Its about 100 acres and its half fields, half hardwoods. Pretty ideal. Opening day i went out after school around 4 oclock and as soon as i got to my watch, i saw him about 150 yards away, too far for the shotgun, and he was on his way off of the property. I saw him through my binoculars and it was pretty clear he was massive! so that was exciting. I went out after school almost every day for the first week, but saw nothing. Finally the weekend came and i set out on sunday morning, packed to stay out the entire day. My dad dropped me off and I walked in just as the sun was coming up, getting to my watch in the hardwoods at 6:40. I was barely set up and he came running through with a doe. I had him down at 6:45. Definitely the biggest adrenaline rush ive ever had. I called my dad and told him to turn around and come back cause my hunt was over. lol, he couldnt believe it. I took the deer with an old Model 31 twelve gauge and he dressed out at 251 lbs, not bad for my first buck. Not even a week after, another big buck moved in and we have seen him many times since. Hopefully he will stick around 'til November and maybe Ill have some more luck.

We had a Leica rangefinder that gave readings up to 1325 yards, and that was only half way across the valley.
The commeragh mountains are beautiful, but very damp in Jan.
Although at least weather was mild.
Last 2 winters we had snow which makes stalking no fun.

There was a lot of deer in the area, we shot two and saw more, but only females are in season at the moment.

Here is the 6 pointer I took this year in the N/F here in SW Va. I took it with a Model 74 30-06 at 72 yards in the woods, that is a long shot for here. The first shooter that I had seen all season.

I took this nice 8 pointer yesterday while running deer hounds. He was way out ahead of the dogs and ran by me in a swamp. I shot him at 55 steps with my Versa Max using 00 buckshot.

Here is the 225 lb 8 point I got at 190 yards with my M700 280Rem on Nov. 13, 2012. That is heavy for a South Arkansas deer.

I have successfully hunted many deer since the 1960s with 721 and 725 rifles in 270 or 30-06. The few times I carried a Model 70, I saw nothing.
