Greetings all. New to this forum but not new to Remingtons. I'm familiar with the barrel coding system used to date rifles, but am having difficulty determining a date on a 700 ADL in .22-250. The letters are U A N P, and, for what it's worth, the s.n. is 199512. I'd appreciate hearing from those more knowledgeable than me to help in determining when this rifle was made. Thanks.

The "N P" are what is primarily germane, and seem to be backwards. The month produced, the first letter of the second set, has to be from "BLACKPOWDERX" meaning months 1-12 assigned to those letters. "N" is not one of them. Can you post up a good, clear close up picture?

A quicker response can be had just by calling Remington customer service with that serial number. Let us know what they say.

Remington customer service could provide no explanation of the letters on the barrel, but was definitive in stating that the serial number indicated a manufacture year of 1966. Using that, I'm going to assume that the first letter, U, and last letter, P, are superfluous, leaving A N, or March 1966.

The serial number lookup by Remington is the best to go by, but without a pic of those stampings the actual month is just a guess.

Agreed. Having the year is whats important to me; the month not so much. Next rainy day I think I'll take the time to look at the rest of the horses in the stable.

1966 should be a nice, vintage quality-era Remington piece. Love those the most! My sole-700 is also a .22-250 and she drives tacks. I think mine is circa 1983 if I recall.
