Hi Guys
I could do with some help please. I have a 11-87 Premier and the extractor has snapped.

My research suggests that extractors for Remington 870/110/11-87 shotguns are well known for their weakness. Quite a few people suggested the Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor as the cure. I ordered the part, but when it arrived it was too wide to fit in the bolt. :(

Next I went to the only gun parts business in the UK: Brownells. Following their schematic for the 11-87 the required part is F93503. Ordered that, but once again it was too wide to fit in the bolt. :(

Next stop was Remington Customer Service, who could not have been less helpful. :( They tell me there is only one extractor for an 11-87 and that is the F93503. They have no other. I asked if they had an ongoing problem with their bolts shrinking! lol

So here is where I need help. Am I really the only person in the world to have a shrunken bolt in my 11-87 or is there actually a part that Remington stock that would cure my problem?

Gun ownership in the UK is tough enough, but not being able to use my Remy for over a year & the prospect of having to scrap it over a part smaller than my little finger nail is plain ridiculous.

Hopefully someone can save this old girl from the scrapheap...

Many Thanks
Jim

FYI by my calculations the replacement extractors have been 0.03" wider than the original broke part...

Have you had the gun since new ? An older 1100 bolt will fit and work fine, and they do have a thinner extractor; That's why Remington made the 11-87 extractor thicker because the extractors have been known to fail. Not a problem on 870s. The 1100 extractor Part # is F16176 1100 EXTRACTOR 12 & 20 GA $15.45. I am not familiar with export 11-87s, it is possible although not likely that they had different (1100) bolts. If someone changed the bolt the notch in the barrel for the extractor will be wider than your old extractor to fit the wider ones.

Thanks Virginian!

Checked the Remy and the extractor notch in the barrel is the same size as extractor, so I guess Remington must have used a 1100 bolt/barrel for export :(

I think you are right about the F16176 part. It seems to be 0.123” wide rather than 0.153” wide for the F95303.

Sadly that part is much more expensive in the UK @ $40! :(

As a side point I was really surprised how unhelpful Remington Customer Care has been. It would have been easier hitting my head against a brick wall!

I have bought 5 Remy's in the last 3 years, so not the worst customer and they could not have been less interested to help me keep my 11-87 alive. Very poor...

You might want to get an 11-87 bolt assembly - if they have them with the wider extractor - and install that. You can widen the notch in the barrel in 5 minutes with a file. Only part I have ever broken on 13 different 1100s/11-87s in 54 years was an extractor in 1982. That gun now has over 115,000 rounds through it - probably had 90,000 plus in 1982 - and has been retired to 12 gauge clays, which I rarely shoot. She was my first Remington and got me started shooting skeet, and later she was my waterfowl gun with a 3" barrel for quite a while.

Sadly due to the UK licensing laws, there just aren't enough shooters to make parts businesses viable in the UK. Only game in town is Brownells & that never comes cheap. New bolt would be over $200, so not very viable.
Probably cheaper to come over to US on holiday & buy everything I need in one go lol
