Is this the correct site to talk about the 540X ? Looks like there is not much talking about any of the 40'shere.

Guy's/Gal's

I am very excited. I was looking for a target 22lr rifle that can shoot very precise groups. I use to have a Remington 540X and it was the most accurate target rifle that I have ever had. I got mad over the 22lr shortage after 3 years of searching and could not find it so I sold all 9 of my 22's. The 540X being one of them. Man talking about shooting my self in the foot.

Anyway I am looking to buy a good target rifle and was looking on GunBroker for a Remington 540X. None were available. I did find a 2013 Clarks Custom Shop 10/22 and thought it would be close to the 540X so I purchased the Clark, or put a bid in on it. I did win the Clark but before the day the auction ended I was looking though GunBroker again just nosing and low and behold I typed Remington 540X in a one came up.

I debated but I know they are getting harder and harder to find so I put in a way over the top bid just so I could not loose the rifle. I won the bid, no one else bid on it. Probably because the starting bid was also high ($750 ). I did not care though I wanted the rifle. Stated rifling was immaculate, bluing 95.5%. The stock has a few scratches from use but the rest of the rifle looks really good. The stock can be refinished which I probably will do. Has good grain. Already have scope and rings in route for her.

Sent payment off today and now the wait begins. I have missed this rifle so much. It was a very expensive lesson to learn but I will be happy to get another one.

Here are some pictures off the auction for it.

Nice looking 540! Stock appears to be easily refinished, enjoy the new toy when it arrives! Let us know how she shoots!

Nice looking rifle looks similar to my 541X. I think they used the same action for the whole series of 22's.

I wouldn't sneeze on that bid because a rifle is worth it to you exactly what it's worth to you. Since it was something you wanted, and you got it without selling the kids off for medical experiments then the price is fair. Looks like a great rifle. Always wanted one, but frankly my 582 is as accurate as I need it to be. They made 'em good in the old days.

Am surprised that 22LR was so hard to find for you. Even in the darkest of days it was available here at the end of the world. Spendy, but available.

Glad you got the gun jstanfield. And glad it's as accurate as you had hoped.
