The KRG one seems to be a really neat options for users that don't want to permanently modify their Remington Model 700.

I have a badger ordnance one one on my .308 Remmy 700. Works very well deer hunting in Ireland as that usually involves wet conditions and sometimes freezing conditions where you want to be able to work your bolt quickly and easily with gloves on.

Those are the exact reasons why I will be adding an oversized bolt knob to my Remington 700 aac-sd!

I'm lucky as a friend of mine is a custom rifle builder in Ireland so I am always tweaking.

I was thinking of putting a 22" Truflite barrel on my VTR
http://www.truefliteriflebarrels.co.nz/13544/5112.html

The reason being, I put a 24" on my VSSF II and she will eat 50-75 grains with incredible accuracy

So I would like perhaps a 1/13 twist on the .308 to be singing with 140 grain rounds ~3000 fps.

I chronographed my 150 grain SST's Hornady Superformance on Sat and I was averaging 2870 fps out of my 20" Factory VTR Barrel..

My shooting mates slag me off as I basically have Remington 700 actions and the rest is after market :D

Give them a call and tell them Dan from Remington Owners sent you. They will certainly be able to ship one up to you in Canada. Keep us updated.

Well, with epoxy in the pics at the link, seems kinda permanent to me, lols.

I just put one on my 700 AAC. There was no epoxy included in the package. Did not need it either as it is a solid mount with the o-rings, steel posts and screws.

You do not have to use the epoxy if you do not want to. I did not install it with the epoxy.

OK good. Will be nice just want it to be solid, as if it was made that way.

This winter in New York (as with the rest of the country) was abnormally cold so I decided to try a little test as to the reliability and functionality of the KRG Bolt Lift in what I consider extreme cold. I learned in a past winter with my 700 SPS Tactical that the stock bolt knob was a PITA while wearing gloves.

When I saw that one night had a forecasted low of -5F I left the rifle in my trunk overnight. When I got up at 0600 (to feed the chickens) I removed the rifle from my trunk and fired through a 10 round magazine with out any hiccups. That morning was a balmy -12F so after I collected my brass (and eggs for that matter) I went inside to thaw out. I left the rifle in the same room as my wood stove where it was about 80F. Around an hour later I looked it over and the Bolt Lift was still firmly attached. I repeated this freezing and thawing process another 5 times that day and the Bolt Lift held firm.

Since I used no epoxy on mine when I installed it I was worried that it might work it's self loose if the temperature changed drastically due to the metal and polymer expanding and contacting. Needless to say that is no longer a concern of mine.

I also use Eezox exclusively as my lubricant/rust preventative and I can state with authority that it's not temperature down to a least -12F. :D

I saw something about a plastic model, and did a bit of research and found the boltoquickloadknob on ebay and got one in today. It fits very well on my 1970 vintage varmint special and clears the objective of the old Redfield 4x12 with room to spare. Looks and feels good, but I would have preferred a rounded vs the squared end.

Don't mean to resurrect an old thread, just wanted to add that I added a tactical bolt handle to my R700 bolt, and it was pretty easy to do right. I used an internally-threaded knob, like this cheapie:

Image

Use a pneumatic cut-off disc to trim your bolt know into a square, then file to a diameter equal to your knob's thread diameter. Then use a thread die to thread the 'stub'; doesn't need to be turned in a lathe as it doesn't need to be perfectly concentric. Apply some thread locker to the threads, spin on the knob, allow to cure, touch up any exposed bare metal, and you're G2G!

I've been known to make a bolt handle or two in my day.

One example before I sprayed it with some Norrells.
