I just picked up a ss model 7 with a plastic stock. Looking for a good factory load ( til my dies show up ) for coyotes.

I won't have any shots over 75 yds due to where I hunt. Any info appreciated.

Thanks--- Stash

Try the Hornady loads for hunting Yotes...( I like the 55 and 62 grain the best )

http://www.hornady.com/store/223-Rem

The 1:9 is a great compromise twist rate—not too fast to cause problems with the 55-grain Bullets, but fast enough to stabilize all but the heaviest bullets under most circumstances. This twist will stabilize most traditional bullets up to 75-grains, and monolithics up to 70-grains—but they do so right at the edge of the envelope so not all rifles will do it.

My personal 16-inch Rock River Arms carbine ( 5.56x45mm ) with a 1-in-9 twist does fine with the heavier Hornady 75 grain BTHP load, but has shown signs of instability with handloads using the 70-grain Barnes TSX—unless the bullet is pushed to maximum velocity. With longer barrels and the commensurate faster velocities, this twist can be more forgiving.

All I could find local was Norma 55 grainers. I am pleased with the results. My range is only about 75 yds and I can hit minute of Ritz OFFHAND. Not bad for a set of 74 yr old eyes. 20 shots, 19 ritz. The yotes don't stand a chance. Local birds ae happy as well..... Happy Thanksgiving o all on this fine site... Stash

Was at my local club/range yesterday burning up ammo in the Seven and one of the members asked to give it a try. Long story shot , it has a new owner. Darn near doubled my money. Going to look for a 7-08, a little more versatile for my use than the 223 was. My favorite hobby--gun shopping..... Stash

The 7mm-08 and .308 Model 7's are several of my favorite grab-n'-go rifles. Such plain darn useful calibers!

I’ve got the Seven in 6MM. A real joy to carry and it shoots great off the bench. But I have a hard time shooting it off hand with the short barrel. I agree the 7-08 would be a better all arounder

My .243 is the Compact model with the short barrel. Guys at the range thought it was a 7mm Rem Mag with the amount of noise it makes on that cartridge and a short barrel. I'd actually like to put a longer barrel on it.
