Originally from SF Bay Area (Cali, the most unfriendly gun state), now in the Fl. Keys...google up Conch Republic for an interesting read... Now retired, I am an avid fisherman, free diver and traveler. Gunnerdoc is my handle...sport shooting is a new passion (but my wife is the better shot  ).

First gun was a single shot bolt action 22 at age 12, also owned a double barrel Parker 12 gauge, 410, Rock Island M5, Taurus 905 SS revolver and now the RP9. I couldn't pass this gun up...Black Friday / Cyber Monday deal at Brownells...$299 minus 11%, free shipping, $100 rebate...net delivered with FFL, etc, under $200. Got 5 extra 18 + 1 magazines at PSA for $14.95 each with free shipping..."Locked and Loaded"...ready to defend.

After Hurricane Irma, where we took a direct "dirty-side" hit (180 mph winds with multiple tornadoes), the Middle Keys was rather lawless for the first few days. Multiple incidents of robberies and undesirables cruising our neighborhoods...If there was anytime to be armed, this was it! Roadblocks, curfew and Sheriff checkpoints brought back some order, but being armed with multiple weapons gave us a better sense of security. Lesson to all...be prepared for any disaster (hurricane, earthquake, winter storm, flood). You may need to survive 7 days on your own without power or water, and be prepared to "Stand Your Ground" (FL 776.013).

God Bless America, the NRA, and the State of Florida. The Second Amendment needs our support, and hopefully the 14th Amendment will lead Congress to making concealed carry universal in all 50 States...get involved...write, vote, donate!

So, that's me...looking forward to Remington producing a PCC (Pistol Caliber Carbine) I think there is a new post in my future :D

Welcome to the forum, Doc. Nice intro and thoughtful post. I'm a FL Native and know the Conch Republic story. In fact, we were married on the beach at Key West and now live just north of you in Cape Coral. We, too, survived Irma last fall. Gathered all the essentials (arms, ammo, some chow and refreshments) and rode it out in the safest closet in the house. The eye passed just a few miles east of us; a Cat II by that time, but still plenty of wind, water and damage. Most of the yankees had abandoned the area long before it got here, but not us. Like you, not leaving our home to any looters. No, sir.

We're with you on the 2A issues. NRA Life members. Florida CWFL holders, politically active.

Welcome from MI!!
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.-Ronald Reagan
