On my all-metal guns I use grease and oil. I clean with alcohol after every range session and prefer synthetic lubricants.
The owners manual says to use Rem .-oil and does not mention grease.
What variants to Remington's suggestions can be employed? Heavy lube like a 1911, or light lube like a Glock? Grease, grease and oil or just oil? Synthetic or petroleum?
Your discussion, suggestions and sharing experiences are important and appreciated.

Tell ya the truth Quico been using Breakfree CLP the last few years. So many different cleaners and lubes to mention! Did pick up a small bottle of the Rem Oil. Notice it seems thin but have read positive reviews. For knife lubrication it seems great too. Used Hoppe's for bores in the past also.

I have been using Brian Enos Slide Glide grease on pretty much everything. Just a touch with a toothpick to apply.

I've been using Frog Lube lately. It makes the cleanup much easier after a trip to the range. The trick is to put it on a bone dry cleaned gun after it has been warmed up, then allowing to cool and wipe down all surfaces so it looks like it is all gone. Easy on the hands as well.
Do NOT use Frog lube if you have any other traces of petroleum based lubes on the gun or you will get nasty coagulated frog crap instead. |

You guys are right... there is no reason to think Remington has the mental capacity to suggest what to lubricate the firearm they designed, built, and sold.
I disassemble mine completely, coat every part generously with the heaviest axle grease I can get my hands on, and reassemble, leaving a 1/16" cake of grease over the entire firearm. I've never noticed any rust. Works great. (Sarcasm.) ~John
