I carried my 783 compact in .308 on a recent hunt. It is a really well balanced gun, has the feel of carrying a lever action. I just put on the spacer to lengthen the lop and it fits perfect. The compact version has a good feel. Great rifle.

Nice to hear a compact model is available as I am beginning to see the value of a 18-20 barrel these days. Most seem happy with the 783 in terms of accuracy lately. The industry has indeed changed the last 15 years but more affordable guns are a must these days for the average hunter. Offerings sure are different in this day and age. Thanks for the input
