I have 2 of these. The first, a generic R1, I bought several years ago. It was not up to par. No return to battery, to tight, etc. Cleaned up the barrel to bushing fit, installed Wilson Combat springs, full length guide rod beavertail grip safety, commander hammer. Had a reliability package and trigger job done by a renowned 1911 guy. Now this is the best (tied with the R1 Enhanced) gun I own. Spent about $1100.00 buying the gun and doing all this shit. Couple of thousand rounds flawlessly.

Fast forward to 2 months ago. Knowing the potential of the R1, I bought an R1 Enhanced for $800.00. Best out of the box gun ever. Have about 600 rounds through it, including 100 185GR HPs, no problems. Mind you, I cleaned up the barrel to busing fit (tight) before ever firing it and only use Wilson Combat Magazines.

Both of these are super accurate and I would trust my life to either

I don't even follow what the term is supposed to mean. You clean the barrel. You clean the bushing. What is "cleaning the barrel bushing fit"?

Have owned four Remington 1911's. I currently own the ss version. Quality has been very good. Trigger on current one is a little mushy but otherwise good.

Was thinking about trading it this week. Pulled it out of the safe tonight and the trigger is better than I remember. Not too bad.

There were no burrs or rough spots on my bushing either so it didn't need cleaning up, it was nice and snug (have to use bushing wrench to remove). Slide to frame fit is nice and tight with no play and it is one of the most accurate 1911's I own (I have quite a few). It is very reliable with several thousand rounds through it so far. My Remington factory mags feed 230 ball and 200 swc with 100% reliability.

Same with me, Steve. My R1 Commander has sent 1200+ rounds downrange so far. The only hiccups seemed to be with MagTech 230 gr ball. I stopped using that and every other brand has been flawless. All seven of the Remington mags I use have worked without failure. I bought mine in Dec 2014 and there were no burrs, sharp edges, nothing. I love it!

I did put a beavertail grip safety and a Commander style hammer on my full size R1. I like it better that way.

I've had one (milspec) for a few months now. I have put over 1000 rounds through with no issues. It shoots my hand loads really well too, I use round nose hard cast Berries 230 gr.
The one area that can be improved is obviously the crunchy trigger pull. Well, I have worked on that and I must say, with great results. I have a 2.5lb smooth trigger on it now and it shoots very well for me. For the most part all I have done is stone & polish the usual internal parts, it’s night and day now. I did do the series 70 shim, removing the 80 firing pin block system, that made it only so slightly better. I may put the 80 parts back in at some point. Yes, there are some better set up 1911s out of the box, but I have no complaints. I'm very happy with my R-1.
