Hello. been a big fan of Remington. I recently found a guy selling some old rifle and pistol frames, most rusted out and just for display. There were two he had that I was interested in so I asked what they were. One was a 1895 Winchester model 1894 in 30wcf. It was a little rusty but the action worked and thought it would be a nice display piece. The other was a 1928 Remington model 12 in pretty decent shape with extra trigger group. and loving Remingtons I just had to get it. The only thing missing was the barrel and the forend. Picked them both up for $30 each. I'm pretty sure the model 12 had a round barrel and not the octagon but is there a way to know for sure?

Welcome to the Remington Owners Forum smokesremmy !!

Originally this model was designated "The New 22 Repeater" & did not have an actual model number assigned. Most people simply refer to this gun as the model 12, and do not add the sub model letter suffix code, which basically designates the barrel length & caliber variations.

In addition to model variation letters, there were different grades of high grade versions relating to engraving & wood quality in A,B,C, & D, which creates some confusion as to relationship to the versions.

(12A) is 22 S, L, LR with a 22" round barrel, using a single magazine band & had a straight grip on the buttstock.

(12B) is 22 short with a 24" octagon barrel, & has (2) magazine bands. Usually had a pistol grip buttstock.

(12C) is 22 S, L, LR 24" octagon barrel, & has (2) magazine bands. Usually had a pistol grip buttstock.

(12C NRA) is 22 S, L, LR 24" octagon barrel, & has (2) magazine bands. Always had a pistol grip buttstock. (Limited production)

(12CS) is 22 Remington Special 24" octagon barrel, & has (2) magazine bands. Usually had a straight grip buttstock.

By magazine band do you mean the 2 guides on the tube?

I sure wish this post wasn't 14 months old and smokesremmy was still around. I'd love to talk about that spare trigger group he has. I need one since the 12 I rescued was attacked by a previous owner with a screw driver who couldn't figure out what the carrier/bolt release was for.

Anyone have a spare carrier and trigger guard assembly? I missed one on eBay over the weekend while at our son's track meet.

Tried them and several others. No luck at the moment with parts in stock. The rifle is shootable as is,just ugly.

I'll keep checking them and a few other places. There's always ebay. Maybe I'll get lucky.
