Hey everybody, new to the forum but not remington. I live at the bottom of the adirondack park. Maybe a half hour from the remington plant in ilion. I have several of them including my favorite, my 1964 700 Adl in 243. I bought it off someone I knew 12 years ago when I was 16. Since then it's taken several deer including my biggest buck and all but one of my other bucks. The only reason it didn't kill that one is it needs a new barrel now. Last week I dropped it off at hart rifle barrels in Lafayette ny. It's getting an 8" twist 24" varmint contour chambered in 243 win again. I've got other stuff in bigger calibers so I kept it simple. I'm ditching the Adl wood because of the heavier barrel and it's not looking so pretty anymore. I may purchase my first synthetic stock besides other rifles that I put wood on later. I'm leaning towards a mcmillan Htg at the moment. My goal was 12lbs but I think I'm going to fall a little short. I have about 4 months to change my mind before hart starts making my barrel. I'm glad I dropped it off in person. I was expecting a high tech sterile top secret work shop. Instead I was greeted by Jack Sutton, the man in charge. I told him what I wanted, he told me how much he hated my creepy trigger lol. He gave me a tour of the shop which looks like any other machinists shop kin the area. Except the gigantic borer for drilling the bores. A lot of the equipment is pretty old Some of which is pre ww2 with a pair of 8 or 10 year old cnc machines. I got to see someone hand lap a finished barrel also. It's a great atmosphere and made me a lot less nervous about giving someone my #1 gun for 9 to 11 months. He even told me he prefers cerakote over their own teflon coating. He said with teflon they have to coat the whole barreled action together because it's too slippery for the barrel vise.
