I got a Maxpedition Neatfreek for Christmas. I didn't really have a use for it until recently.

I was looking for a way to carry whatever I would need for a simple shooting session or if I just wanted to grab my SPS T and have whatever I'd need in the field. I started looking at several options and couldn't find something small enough to not be an actual pack, but large enough to hold some PMCS gear, a few magazines, some tools, logbook, Mildot Master, GPS, and wind meter. Kind of a possibles bag for the 21st century rifle.

I didn't want the stuff loosely rattling about inside a tool bag, so I knew I wanted some internal organization. I needed something along the lines of waist kit, or large pouch. However those require a belt obviously, and I didn't want to have to attach it to my belt or use a duty belt. Jumbos and Fatboys lacked the organization I was looking for and I would have to dig down through a top opening bag to hunt for stuff. Then I remembered my Neatfreak.

The Neatfreak had all of the internal organization I wanted (and more), it had a shoulder sling, and the ability to put stuff on the outside as well. It has a semi-clamshell design that allows me to open it up just a little and reach most things, or open it up fully to have access to everything. I found the perfect bag for what I needed.

I removed the internal divider because I didn't need it, and it took up space. The small sleeve pockets were useless to me and I didn't need the Velcro patch for anything. Using the pockets along the inside halves of the bag, I was able to divide up my storage.

On one side, I have my logs, Mildot Master, notebook, rangecard, dope cards, calculator and references in the sleeve pockets. I use the two bellows pockets for a GPS and wind meter. On the other side of the bag, I carry the PMCS gear and tools. I have a complete Otis kit, an Otis optics cleaning kit, an Otis scraper and punch set, a chamber cleaning kit and a GP brush. I also have an LT Tool Pack, and a MUT. In the smaller pockets I have CLP and spare batteries. On the keyring tether I have small LED.

On the outside front cover the Neatfreek MOLLE strips were used to mount two Triad Tactical AICS mag pouches. The zippered pouch is available for whatever small items I might need to add, along with the mesh pocket. On the rear of the bag, the belt loop/MOLLE loops are available if I want to secure the bag to my belt to keep it from flopping or sliding.

I currently have the shoulder strap that came with it attached, although I may be changing that out in the future.

Thanks for providing us with a thorough review of the Maxpedition Neatfreak bag. Looks like it is the perfect bag for what you were looking to carry. I like having the MOLLE straps on the back as I could then strap this onto my back pack.

I felt bad because my kids bought it for me and I haven't used it. At all.
Now I wish I had tried it sooner. I've still got a few things I want to do with it, and they should be pretty interesting too.
The two MOLLE straps tuck away pretty well into the back pocket when you don't need them.

Looks Good. I've been looking for something like this to hold my essentials for a day at the range.
